The Pierre Bourdieu Foundation was created shortly after Pierre Bourdieu’s death. Chaired at the time by Franz Schultheis, its general mission was to manage Pierre Bourdieu’s intellectual legacy and coordinate a network of researchers using the tools forged by the sociologist in their own work. For some twenty years, one of the foundation’s main activities was the management of photographs taken by Pierre Bourdieu in Algeria between 1958 and 1961. Kept at the Austrian contemporary art institution Camera Austria at the time, the transfer of these photographs to the Centre Pompidou in 2022 gave rise to the idea of creating a newsletter as a suitable tool for achieving its objectives.
